Alex Tam Tin-lok 譚天樂

Alex Tin-lok TAM was born in Hong Kong. He completed his Bachelor of Music degree at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), and the postgraduate opera course at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) in London. He began his music studies at an early age under Mr. Chiang Wai Man, and continued with Miss Rossaline Pi. Alex was a member of the 'Hong Kong Music Office Youth Choir', 'Sregnis Singers', 'The Hong Kong Opera Society', and the 'Cantocore Society'.

In 1995, he entered the HKAPA, majoring in voice under the instruction of Dr. Derek Anthony and Mr. Michael Rippon. He also had the opportunity to work with renowned artists such as Georg Tinter, Michael Rippon and Enza Ferrari. Mr. Tam was studying with Miss Joy Mammen and Audrey Hyland at the RAM where he had sung in master classes by Dennis O'Neill and Robert Tear.

Alex has taken leading roles in concerts, operas, and other productions in Hong Kong, London as well as the HKAPA. He performed his first major role at the age of 19 as Rinuccio in Puccini's Gianni Schcchi. This success was followed by his performance of other lead characters such as, Almaviva (The Barber of Seville), Ferrando (Cosi fan Tutte), Nemorino (L'elisir D'amore), Mozart (Korsakov's Mozart und Salieri), Pong (Turandot), Tybalt (Romeo et Juliette) Testo (Monteverdi's Il Combatimentto di Tancredi e Clorinda), Jenik (The Bartered Bride), Goro (Madama Butterfly), Ramendado (Carmen), Ricardo (Wolf Ferrari's School for Fathers), Spoletta (Tosca), Malcom (Macbeth), Prologue (The Turn of the Screw), Ruiz (Il Trovatore), Parpingol (La Boheme), Messenger (Aida), and others.

In addition, Alex has also appeared as a soloist in a number of oratorios, masses, and concerts. These include J.S.Bach's 'Magnificat', Beethoven's 'Missa Solemnis', 'The Ninth Symphony', Mozart's 'Requiem' and 'Mass in C minor', Handel's 'Judas Macabeaus' and 'Messiah', Karl Orff's 'Catulli Camina' Schubert's 'Mass in Eb', Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Requiem' . In Le French May 2000, Alex was both invited to give a duo concert with the outstanding French soprano Elisabeth Videl, and to be one of the soloists in 'The Voices of Light'. He performed two contemporary pieces by the American composer David del Tredici in 2001 as an Asian premiere. In the Hong Kong Arts Festival 2002, Alex appeared in J.S. Bach's 'Coffee Cantata'.

Alex obtained the Barber Fei's scholarship in the 47th School Music Festival. From 1996-2001, he had received scholarships including the 'Guinness Fight scholarships', 'Investec music scholarships', 'Stephenson Harwood & Lo Scholarships', 'Bloomberg Music Scholarships', 'The Welsh Male choir scholarships', 'The Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund', etc. In 1999, he received the 'Lady Fung Music Fellowship' from the Asian Cultural Council. That summer, he participated in the Aspen Music Festival in the United States.

Alex studied guitar and piano while following his vocal studies. He frequently appears as a jazz guitarist with his own band. He was invited to play the guitar by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. In June 2001, he performed with the Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti in Hong Kong. Alex is also very active in the pop musical field. He has composed and arranged for television and many main local artists. His works include concert arrangements for the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta with Joey Yung, Justin, Sally Yeh, Jeff Cheung, Chris Wong and others. Alex is a member of Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong.

譚天樂生於香港，畢業於倫敦皇家音樂學院及香港演藝學院歌劇課程，早年隨蔣慧民先生及畢永琴女士學習聲樂。譚氏曾為香港音樂事務處青年合唱團，合唱俠，香港歌劇社和雅歌合唱團的團員。

1995年，譚天樂考入香港演藝學院，師隨戴志誠博士及聶明康先生主修聲樂，並有機會與著名藝術家如喬治．田特、聶明康和安薩．法拉利等合作。在倫敦皇家音樂學院深造期間，隨喬伊．馬門和奧德莉．凱蘭學習，並參與丹尼斯．奧尼爾及羅拔．迪亞的大師班。

譚氏曾在演藝學院及本地不少音樂會，歌劇和其他製作中擔任要角，十九歲即演出普契尼《強尼．斯基基》中的雷諾喬一角，大獲好評；隨後又演出其他角色，如亞馬維瓦伯爵（羅西尼《西維爾的理髮師》）、佛蘭多（莫札特《女人心》）、尼莫連奴（唐尼采第《愛情靈藥》）、莫札特（雷姆斯基．柯薩科夫《 莫札特與薩埃耶理》）、龐大臣（普契尼《杜蘭朵》）、塔斯圖（蒙迪威爾第《牧歌選》）耶尼克（斯美塔拿《被出賣的新娘》）、五郎（普契尼《蝴蝶夫人》、拉門達度（比才《卡門》、利卡度（沃爾夫．法拉利《父親學堂》）、史波雷塔（ 普契尼《托斯卡》）、梅爾康（ 《馬克白》）、盧斯（ 威爾第《唱遊詩人》）、柏平戈（ 普契尼《波希米亞吞人》及信差（ 威爾第《阿依達》）等。

譚天樂也在不少神劇、彌撒曲和音樂會中擔任獨唱，包括貝多分的《莊嚴彌撒曲》、《第九交響樂》、 莫札特的《安魂曲》、《C小調彌撒曲》、韓德爾的《猶大馬加比亞》和《彌賽亞》，及奧爾夫的《卡圖利之歌》。在2001年的法國五月節，他獲邀請與傑出的法國女高音伊利沙伯．維度攜手合作舉辦演唱會。亦是《光影歌聲》的其中一位獨唱家。2001年，他為美國作曲家特列迪奇的兩首當代作品作亞洲首演。2002年香港藝術節，亦現演出巴哈的《咖啡清唱劇》。在1997至1999年間，譚氏多次應邀到禮賓府表演。

除鑽研聲樂，譚天樂亦習結他及鋼琴，曾獲香港管弦樂團及香港小交響樂團邀請作結他演奏，2001年，意大利男高音巴伐洛提來港，譚天樂更與他同台演出。譚氏積極參與本地古典及流行音樂活動，當中包括作曲和編曲工作。現為香港作曲家及作詞家協會會員。
