Lux Aeterna by Morten Lauridsen
Hong Kong P remiere
Morten Lauridsen's warm, decidedly tonal compositions have earned for the American composer a secure place in the concert repertory. Born in 1943, Lauridsen inhabits an extremely conservative style directed simply and single-mindedly at showing off the beauty of choral singing while it illustrates inspiring texts. Music by Lauridsen, including his most famous O Magnum Mysterium , occupies a permanent place in the standard vocal repertoire of the Twentieth-Century. Lux Aeterna written for chorus and chamber orchestra was given its world premiere in 1997. The work is in five movements played without pause. Its texts are drawn from sacred Latin sources, each containing references to Light.
